2020 turned the view on tourism upside down: it turned out that the border could quickly close, the plane could cancel the flight, and the travel agency could cease to exist. But people continue to live; they are looking for new experiences and do not want to give up their rest.

The UAE was one of the first to open its borders to travelers. Airports operate in the country, hotels welcome guests, beaches and parks are open, cafes and restaurants are happy to receive visitors, amusement parks and water parks operate. But new rules and precautions have emerged; one must follow that to avoid getting sick with coronavirus and infect others.

We answer your questions about holidays in Dubai in 2022.

Do I need to make a visa in the UAE?

Nothing has changed regarding visas in 2020. They are still quick and free of charge put into your passport upon arrival at the airport.

Do I need health insurance?

Your insurance must cover treatment for COVID-19. That is, your insurance should cover the costs if you fall ill in the UAE and are sent to a clinic or observatory.

How is the flight to Dubai?

Before the flight, you will be provided with masks and gloves that you will need to wear to protect yourself and those around you.

You will need to complete a health declaration on the flight and indicate that you have no symptoms of coronavirus, such as fever, weakness, or cough. You will also need to sign a document where you agree to be quarantined if you get sick.

Do I need to do a coronavirus test before travelling to Dubai?

Tourists from Europe several other continents must do two PCR tests: one before departure and the second after arrival in Dubai.

The first PCR test for COVID-19 must be done 96 hours before arrival in the UAE. Time is counted from passing the test, not from getting the results. The test must be negative. The test must be officially translated into English or Arabic and printed. This service is provided in most laboratories. You cannot submit the test electronically or via SMS on your phone.

The second PCR test will be done at the airport. It is free of charge, and it does not take much time. After the test, you go to your hotel and stay in your room until the results return. Results usually come within 24 hours.

Please note that you must do precisely the PCR test. An antibody test or any other test is not appropriate.

When and where will the test result come from the airport?

At Dubai airport, you will need to install a particular application on your phone. It’s called the DXB Smart App, and you can install it beforehand.

To activate the application, you need to enter your first and last name, passport number, phone number, e-mail. After that, an automated SMS with a code will be sent to your phone number. One must enter the code into the application. You do not need a Dubai SIM card; your regular phone number is enough.

The result of the PCR test done to you at Dubai airport will be visible in the application within 24 hours. The result often comes in less than 12 hours; that is, you have time to rest from the road. But in rare cases, the result may be delayed longer than a day. For example, this can happen if the airport received too many passengers on the day of your arrival.

If you cannot install the application, the results can be found on the website by passport number and last name.

What to do if the test is positive

If the test is positive, A medical professional will refer you to a clinic or observatory.

If the test is negative, you can go for a walk, the beach or go on an excursion. The UAE offers plenty of entertainment and services.

Getting around is easy as well. You have multiple options to choose from. However, if you own a car, ensure that you equip the vehicle with the corresponding tyres. For example, suppose you own an SUV; the tyres equipped should fall under “best tyre brands for SUV”.

Can the DXB Smart App track my location?

Yes, it can. The app determines your geolocation and knows where you are. This ensures that you do not leave the hotel or apartment before the test result is received. Of course, you can leave your phone at home and go for a walk, but it’s better to show consciousness and rest after the trip. To make your vacation more enjoyable, rent a hotel with a beautiful view and a balcony.

If the test is positive, the application will ensure that the sick person does not leave the hotel or clinic.
