Today I am sharing my experience and providing you the information about the Island Peak Trek. I had a wonderful experience with SummitClimb. My trek started from the flight to Kathmandu airport. I got visa on arrival and soonexited from the airport. There I received a warm welcome in Kathmandu,Nepal and SummitClimb team greeted me and took me to hotel taking a taxi ride. The hotel where I stayed was nice and comfortable. I had every facility needed, good service and a fancy lobby. The good part was delicious breakfast included for free of cost in hotel by SummitClimb team.
The hotel where I stayed in Kathmandu is located at most popular tourist district, Thamel. Thamel is gorgeous place to hangout. There are lots of restaurants and bars with variety of shops. You can find more than 150 trekking and mountaineering shops there. During my trip in Kathmandu I had some delicious dinner in restaurants around in Thamel.
Now finally my trek to Island Peak started. Yes, I was flying to Lukla from Kathmandu. On that day I was informed to wake up early so I can reach Lukla on time. Kathmandu airport is too busy sometimes, in that case we would have to drive for 5 hours to a regional airport that specializes in flight to our destination. I reached lukla on the same day. It took thirty minute on a 16 seat plane. If you are lucky enough you can see glimpse of lots of mountains during the flight. If the weather condition is good you can even see tallest mount in the world Mount Everest. In the same flight I met a person who has dared himself saying “I want to climb Mount Everest”
I was worried about carrying my heavy rucksack during the trek but the good news was that I don’t need to carry my heavy rucksack, instead yaks and porters carried everything for me. After reaching to Lukla from flight on day 1 I trekked to pretty forests to PhakdingZamfute at 2650 meters. Our team stayed at Sonam guest house near Dudh Khosi River. Also early morning our team enjoyed brunch at the Namaste Lodge. Now it was day 2 and me along with my team need to trek up through picturesque villages. I need to cross large hill to reach Namche Bazaar. My next destination was Khumbu valley a commercial town in Namche Bazaarbut along the way I had to cross confluence of the Dudh Khosi and Bhote Khosi Rivers. We stayed in Hilltop lodge that day. On day 3 after trekking I was tired so took rest in Namche and enjoyed the view. After few hours we need to reach Everest view hotel from where I can see fine view of Ama Dablam and Everest. It was already day 4 of trek now we need to walk along ridges above the Dudh Khosi. There I saw another stunning peak Mt. Thamserku. Again I need to cross large hill to Tengboche Monastery. Drop down to river and walk up was daily routine. My next target was village of Pangboche at 3950 meter. On reaching there I need to cross the river again. Finally after a long trek got warm welcome from Sonam lodge. I was told that we need to walk 4 hours on day 5 onto theImja River. After a long walk I was able to reach agricultural and trekking center in town of Dingboche. I along with the team stayed at Dingboche Resort at 4400 meters. On day 6 I need to walk for 3 hours to reach the destination at 4700 meter i.e. Chukkung and stayed at Chukkung resort. Onday 7 I was excited because I was reaching to my final destination Island Peak base camp at 5100 meter. It was a 4.5 hour walk from Chukkung. We slept in tents in basecamp.
I had a memorial trek to Island Peak and do recommend you too.
